Long Island CityにあるYMCAで日本語のアフタースクールプログラムが2017年から始まるとのことを伺い、見学に行きました。現在、3クラスのUPKがあり、日本語環境の子女が数名いて、その方が中心でアフタースクールを企画しているそうです。
YMCAのUPKはとても自由な環境で、子供との交流を通じて学ぶというような感じでした。Pre-Kだけなので、Public Schoolとは違い、Pre-Kのうちにこれはやった方がいいとかいう感じがなく、個人的には好きでした。あと、プールが設置されており、毎週プールのクラスがあり、施設の中に広いジムがあってそこで自由に遊べるそうです。

Japanese After-school Program at YMCA (LIC)
32-23 Queens Blvd, Long Island City, NY 11101
The class will start from September 2017 and meet from 3:00pm-6:00pm from Monday through Friday. This program is an after-school program for children who go to the Pre-K program at YMCA, but it’s also open to other kids. Many children in this class will be from Japanese-speaking families (e.g., children who were born in the U.S. to Japanese-speaking parent(s)), so there will be a lot of cultural maintenance/enrichment activities as well ask Japanese language learning. The cost is $100 per week.
